Playhouse Creatures Theatre Company and Nazareth Housing have been partnering for the past four years through our youth Theatre program "Little Creatures Act Out" . Providing free workshops and week long theatre camps to our community . The camps are an opportunity for children of New York City's low-income and homeless families to hone their acting abilities and develop their social skills. "We are committed to giving back to the community we produce in,"It is a cornerstone of our mission." says PCTC's Artistic Director Joseph W. Rodriguez. When PCTC heard about David Harrell’s show, we knew immediately that the kids and families both Nazareth housing and PCTC have been working with, and any child for that matter, would both enjoy and grow from David’s show. Thanks To Sarah Norris and New Light Theatre’s generous support we are able to offer free tickets to low income children and families.
"A Little Potato and Hard to Peel," written and performed by David Harrell, delivers a humorous and heartwarming look at living with a disability. He was born without his right hand. Through his journey we learn to not let ourselves be defined by our own limitations or let the circumstances of our lives peel away the core of our humanity. David clearly demonstrates that by not judging a book by its cover, everybody grows and through his journey we learn to not let ourselves be defined by our own limitations. "A Little Potato and Hard to Peel" is a remarkable show, tightly written and, yes, brilliantly executed. It's an inspiration, it's an education, it is truly remarkable.” -The Winston Salem Journal . Thursday August 7th, registered kids will be able to attend a free 2 hour creative writing workshop with PCTC company members, to explore the effects the show has had on them. With guidance from the company members, the children will write monologues telling a story of how they once felt different and have the opportunity to hear a professional actor read their monologue at the end of the workshop.
