The Barkha Dance Company, led by renowned dancer and artistic director Barkha Patel, will bring a captivating blend of live music and kathak dance to Rochester as part of the Rochester Fringe Festival. Featuring talented musicians on vocals, tabla, and sarangi, the ensemble will perform on September 11 and 12, 2024, at the University of Rochester's Sloan Performing Arts Center. Patel, a recipient of the prestigious Juried Bessie Award, is acclaimed for her innovative approaches that celebrate the cultural heritage of kathak while shaping its contemporary evolution. The performance promises a remarkable exploration of classical Indian dance infused with modern artistry.
