20 tunes from The Great American Songbook, arranged for solo piano by legendary keyboard wizard Cy Walter (1915-1968) and performed by pianist Lars Boye Jensen. Composed by such familiar songwriters as Richard Rodgers, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, and the Gershwin brothers, to name a few, this music epitomizes the Golden Era of
Broadway show tunes. As arranged by Cy Walter, these interpretations are refreshingly unique, with a stylized approach that is unlike any other. During the thirties and forties, Cy Walter developed and perfected such a novel playing style that he came to be known as ÈThe Dean of Cocktail PianistsÇ and ÈThe Park Avenue TatumÇ among other laudatory nicknames. Although equally inspired by jazz, classical, and popular music, none of these labels accurately describes Cy Walter's artistic genius. This CD represents the first instance in which another pianist has comprehensively recorded so many of Cy Walter's transcribed arrangements.
