The North Carolina Symphony's popular series of laid-back dinner performances return in two weeks with a concert of tantalizing musical themes. The 2011/12 edition of the celebrated Pub Series opens at Buku in downtown Raleigh on Monday, Oct. 10, with a celebration of Stravinsky, the master storyteller.

Dinner service begins at 6:00 p.m., the concert at 8:00 p.m.

The Symphony's dazzlingly talented new principal clarinet Andrew Lowy opens the evening with a haunting solo, Stravinsky's Three Pieces for Clarinet, before the evening's featured trio of Lowy, violin David Kilbride and piano John Noel launch into three selections from Stravinsky's beautiful and timeless love story, The Firebird.

The concert then takes dinnergoers deep into the dark and twisted dream world of A Soldier's Tale. Pulling together everything from tango to jazz, Stravinsky offers up a miniature masterpiece on that old and enticing story: A traveller meets the devil on an empty road.

Along the way, audience members will enjoy a multi-course meal from Buku's eclectic menu inspired by food from the pushcarts of vendors in cities across the globe. The restaurant puts a clever and delicious spin on street food, with dishes like Polish pierogis, Colombian arepas, Thai papaya salad served in a banana leaf and more.

The Oct. 10 Pub concert featuring Stravinsky's A Soldier's Tale is just the beginning of the four-concert Pub Series, the perfect, sophisticated date nights or evenings out with friends. Upcoming concerts in the series are:

Sun, Feb. 12 at Humble Pie - Dvo?ák's celebrated and rarely heard masterpiece, the "American" String Quartet
Mon, Apr 16 at Buku - A Celtic night with traditional folk tunes and movie composer Bernard Herrmann's Souvenir de Voyages
Sun, May 20 at Humble Pie - 20th-century masterworks: Kodály's Duo for Violin and Cello and John Adams's sparkling John's Book of Alleged Dances

Tickets to Pub Series concerts are $65 per person, covering the multi-course meal and concert. The entire series can be purchased now for $200, but hurry, these concerts sell out fast! Visit www.ncsymphony.org/pub for tickets.

Buku is located at 110 East Davie St. in Raleigh.
