Light Opera of Portland (LOoP) is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of the charming and witty opera, "Patience," by the iconic duo Gilbert and Sullivan. This delightful performance will take the stage at the Portland5’s Brunish Theatre May 30–June 15, offering audiences an unforgettable experience filled with humor, satire, and whimsical music. The 35th Dragoon Guards return home after a year away, to discover that the maidens they were all engaged to now want nothing to do with them, and have become obsessed with aesthetic poet Reginald Bunthorne. Bunthorne however, has set his heart on Patience, the village milkmaid, who claims not only not to like poetry, but not have understand the concept of love itself! As Bunthorne schemes to win Patience’s heart, the arrival of rival poet Archibald Grosvenor throws his world upside down as his adoring fans abandon him for the latest craze. With its clever libretto and catchy melodies, "Patience" remains a favorite among Gilbert and Sullivan enthusiasts and newcomers alike. The Light Opera of Portland is proud to feature a talented cast and crew who bring this production to life with energy and authenticity. Under the skilled direction of Artistic Director Laurence Cox, and with musical direction by Josh Pounders, audiences can expect a vibrant and polished performance that honors the spirit of Gilbert and Sullivan's original work.
