Theatre Berk presents the world premiere of From the Ruby Lounge, an original workplace comedy set in a fictional Portland strip club, to be staged at the Shoebox Theater this upcoming August. This bold new work of feminist theatre is a devised production, written in collaboration with an all-female cast, under the direction of Sarah Marie Andrews and Athena Aura Nova.Following Sterling (played by Kylie Rose), and the beginning of her career at the Ruby Lounge strip club, the play introduces her coworkers (played by Bryn Butler, Taylor Jean Grady, Heidi Hunter, and Maya Seidel) while guiding us through the truths and misconceptions about life and work as a stripper. Years of training and research went into developing this workplace comedy that will portray strippers as employees in a legitimate job like any other, says producer William Thomas Berk. As such, these characters are written and portrayed as complex and compelling women. From the Ruby Lounge is the debut production of Theatre Berk. Ticket prices range from $10 to $20. No one under 18 admitted. Half of all proceeds go to SWOP Behind Bars. For information and ticket reservations, visit theatreberk.com or call 503-816-2044.
