1944 - the year of D-Day but the war is not yet over. Each year there has been hope that the end is in sight. There are still many stories to be told - tales of heroism and remorse, pain and joy. Tapestry Theatre Company revisits that year in America's history with an updated script, new music and arrangements, presented by many cast and band members from past years of the Christmas from Home series, joined by several performers new to the Tapestry stage.

1944 Christmas from Home is packed with all the elements of the "golden age of radio." The live band and singers present "Shoo Shoo Baby," "I'll Be Seeing You, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," and many more. The show also features a sound effects cart crammed with plenty of gadgets and gizmos to create that "you are there" feeling. When wrapped together as a Christmas gift for the audience, all these elements create a unique theatre experience the whole family can enjoy.

Tapestry is pleased to welcome back Ron Daum as the Emcee, Victor James. A familiar face to theatre-goers in the Portland area, Ron has appeared in plays with Broadway Rose, Lakewood, Stumptown Stages, Musical Theatre Company, Portland Opera, and Portland Center Stage. His smooth voice and winsome charm make him the ideal host for the evening.

The company is also pleased to welcome back Drammy Award winners Dale Boss (Vocal Director) and David Ian (Sound Effects). Dave Fleschner - current keyboardist for Curtis Salgado - arranges the music, plays the piano and leads the band. Ensemble members from past shows include Martha Bosch, Sanna Bunnell, Susan Chapman, Bruce Fiebach, David Ian, Phillip M. Meyer and Laura Myers who are joined by new cast members Michael Adams and Ashly Will. Judy Straalsund directs the script written by local playwright, Pat Kruis Tellinghusen.

Tapestry will present 1944 Christmas From Home December 4 - 20, with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. at the historic Hollywood Theatre, 4122 N.E. Sandy Boulevard, in Portland, Oregon. The final weekend includes two additional shows; Thursday, December 17, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, December 19, at 2 p.m. The performance on Friday, December 12th will be sign-interpreted.
