Just in time for election season and Halloween Post5 brings the tale of Shakespeare's most prolific villian to the stage Starring Matt Smith as Richard and featuring a cast of some of the most talented actors in Portland, OR. All under the direction of Co-Artistic Director Patrick Walsh.

Walsh's fascination with the script was sparked from two places: His work inside of a maximum security prison and his work with two men who suffer from cerebral palsy. When reached for comment Walsh elucidated, "It's amazing the way that we treat violent offenders, many who are veterans, and the disabled in this country. As a society, we shut them away instead of trying to understand them and their behavior." Expect to see a much more sympathetic Richard then people might be used to. This production promises to show how Richard's personality has been dangerously shaped because of his disability and the treatment that he has received because of it. Richard's family life will be explored and shown as a cause of his violent behavior.

Featuring a cast of seven (four women and three men) of Portland's most talented classical actors this promises to be a show that is not to be missed. Come out to Post5 and see a play, you thought you knew, reimagined.

Walsh closed out by saying, "This is the kind of work that Post5 has been known for. We are exploring a Shakespeare play in a new way. Hoping that people will come and see this show in an exciting, accessible way. Shakespeare didn't set out to write a dusty classic and we don't plan to present one."

Post5 Theatre started in August of 2011 with three people in their mid-twenties and the dream of staging the beautiful classic- Romeo and Juliet. We picked the courtyard of Mile Post 5, an artist community in Portland, OR to launch our new company with a vision to produce fresh, youthful, ensemble based theatre.

2015 saw Post5 moved to the Portland community of Sellwood. Just a short ten-minute drive from downtown, the new space has been a work-in-progress that continues to grow as a hub of creativity for the Portland theatre scene.

In the fall of 2015 Founding Artistic Director Ty Boice and Associate Artistic Director Cassandra Boice handed over the reigns to a new artistic team comprised of Paul Angelo, Rusty Tennant and Patrick Walsh. With new leadership comes new faces, new ideas, and new expectations. For years, the slogan of Post5 Theatre has been "Come play with us." We now hope you will "Come grow with us."

Our 2016 Season features three of Shakespeare's greatest tragedies, two hilarious adaptations of Shakespeare classics, a Dickensian favorite, and two contemporary classics we hope to share with you. Post5 aims to be a viable opportunity for professional
theatre firmly rooted in developing the cultural landscape of the Sellwood community.

Over the years, Post5 has become known as a place to see the stories we have told for centuries (and are likely to tell for centuries to come) in new and exciting ways while still maintaining an edge of youthful energy. This is something that we hope will never change. Our intimate 80-seat theatre doesn't rely on the machinations that consume massive amounts of the budgets of some of the larger theatres. Instead, we focus our funds into the artists themselves, and then challenge them to create something memorable and special for our audiences.
