Writer, Comedian and Cancer Survivor Jenny Allen to Speak at City Theatre

City Theatre, in partnership with Classic Lines Bookstore, will host writer, comedian, and cancer-survivor Jenny Allen in a one-night-only City Event, Monday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m., with special guest host Kristy Nolen. Allen's latest book, a collection of essays titled Would Everybody Please Stop?, explores everything from chemotherapy to empty nesting, all with her signature wry humor.

Allen will share humorous stories about her life, selections from the book, and perform excerpts of her award-winning solo show, I Got Sick Then I Got Better. Attendees will receive a copy of Would Everybody Please Stop?, which The New York Times called "A tartly funny and often piercingly emotional ramble through life at a certain age." Tickets are $30 and on sale now.

Jenny Allen is a writer and performer. Her essays and articles have appeared for years in many magazines, including The New Yorker, The New York Times, New York, Vogue, Esquire, More, The Huffington Post, and Good Housekeeping. Recent essays appear in Andy Borowitz's anthology The Fifty Funniest American Writers and in In the Fullness of Time: 32 Women on Life After 50. Her award-winning solo show I Got Sick Then I Got Better has been seen in venues across the country and in Canada. She lives on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. Allen's daughter, Halley Feiffer, is the playwright of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New York City, on stage at City Theatre through October 15, 2017.
