Throughline Theatre's BRAINPEOPLE Begins Tonight

By: Oct. 23, 2015

In a not-so-distant future, society has accepted the reality of a totalitarian police state. Curfews limit social interaction, fear of the government keeps the populace in line, and citizens distrust each other and themselves. Against this backdrop, three women meet for a dinner party, itself a quiet act of rebellion. With the promise of a large cash reward if they will stay for the entire meal, Mayannah invites Ani and Rosemary to her lavish home for an exotic feast. The women meet as strangers, each tormented by their own eccentricities, but as the party progresses and the host's motives are revealed, they all become more to each other than they could have dreamed.

As much a modern ghost story as it is an examination of humanity's fragile psyche, BRAINPEOPLE is a poetic, full-length one act from Jose Rivera, whose screenplay for The Motorcycle Diaries earned him an Academy Award nomination. Throughline's production marks the premier of BRAINPEOPLE on the Pittsburgh stage.

BRAINPEOPLE is the final installment in Throughline Theatre's sixth season, following a landmark year that included a simultaneous production of Angels in America Parts 1 & 2, as well as a reimagining of Everyman that the Pittsburgh City Paper called "ambitiously stunning" and "brilliantly rendered." The Company's sixth throughline is "Method in Madness," highlighting plays that blur the distinction between reason and insanity.

Throughline Theatre Company's four-show season focuses on the relationship between past, present, and future by presenting plays from varied time periods and arranging them to highlight their thematic and stylistic similarities.

BRAINPEOPLE opens Friday, October 23 and runs until Saturday, October 31. The opening night performance will be followed by a reception where food and drinks will be provided and audience members can meet the cast. Thursday and Friday performances start at 8pm, Saturday performances at 2pm and 8pm. Tickets are $20 general admission or $15 for students and seniors. Tickets for the Opening Night Reception are an additional $10. Tickets are available at the door or in advance online at throughline.showclix.com. The 2pm performance on Saturday, October 24 will feature cash-only pay-what-you-can seating; tickets will be available at the box office only and are first come, first served.
