Pittsburgh's Only Summer-Long Film Festival Returns to The Oaks Theater

By:

The historic Oaks Theater is pleased to announce the schedule for its 9th Annual "Moonlit Matinee Film Festival," Pittsburgh's only summer-long, late-night film festival. This year's festival is dedicated to some of the most iconic and cult films released in the last 30 years, including a month-long tribute to the most entertaining movies of 1986 with screenings of TOP GUN, ALIENS, THE FLY, and more.

The Oaks Theater is a gloriously refurbished, independently owned movie house that regularly offers the best in current, classic, and non-traditional cinema entertainment. Opened originally in 1938, this Pittsburgh landmark now features new and state-of-the-art digital projection and surround sound.

This year's Moonlit Matinee film festival is presented by The ScareHouse haunted attraction in Etna, which was named as "one of America's Scariest Halloween Attractions" by Travel Channel. For 2011, The ScareHouse offers a loving tribute to Western Pennsylvania's legacy of living dead movies with a new attraction: Pittsburgh Zombies.

Speaking of the walking dead, this year's festival includes rare 35mm screenings of two of the best zombie movies ever made: George A. Romero's DAY OF THE DEAD (1985) and Edgar Wright's SHAUN OF THE DEAD (2004). DAY OF THE DEAD, the third film in the original DEAD trilogy of zombie movies filmed in and around the Pittsburgh area, has found a legion of new fans and appreciation since its original and limited release.

The "Moonlit Matinee Film Festival" runs from May 20th through August 20th. Films screen on Fridays at 10pm, Saturdays at midnight. $8.00 General admission, $6.00 for seniors, youths, and students. More information is available at http://www.theoakstheater.com.
