Pittsburgh Cultural Trust Announces CITYSCAPE- A Sensory Friendly Performance By Jumping Jack Theater

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is excited to announce Jumping Jack Theater will perform Cityscape at the Trust Arts Education Center, 805-807 Liberty Ave., March 22-24, 2018. Cityscape is an original play created for audiences that would benefit from sensory and autism-friendly strategies. This performance is part of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust's sensory-friendly and accessibility initiatives.

Following M.C., a nonverbal character, this interactive world premiere features innovative puppetry, unique settings, and social skill and communication supports, designed to engage the elementary age student. When a wily pigeon flies away with M.C.'s most prized treasure, she must leave the comfort of home and cross the big and busy Cityscape to get it back. The audience is invited to participate in the action through creative movement, music, and sensory play. From reaching the top of a skyscraper to chasing down a dump truck, audiences help M.C. solve problems and overcome fears as she safely navigates this new and exciting environment.

The cast includes Sara Barbisch, Sarah Carleton, and Casey Kilroy. The show was devised and created by the Jumping Jack Theater Team: Stephen Santa, Claire Sabatine, and Rebecca Covert.

"We are thrilled to present Jumping Jack Theater, a Pittsburgh-based theater company, in their second performance in the Cultural District. Jumping Jack Theater is deeply committed to creating performances that are engaging for families with members who would benefit from a relaxed, sensory-friendly theater experience," shared Tracy Edmunds, Vice President, Arts Education at the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. "This year we have added week-day matinees to provide opportunities for school groups to attend. Audience members are encouraged to arrive early to become familiar with the set design and performance space and to engage with the actors."

Pittsburgh Cultural Trust
The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has overseen one of Pittsburgh's most historic transformations: turning a seedy red-light district into a magnet destination for arts lovers, residents, visitors, and business owners. Founded in 1984, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is a non-profit arts organization whose mission is the cultural and economic revitalization of a 14-block arts and entertainment/residential neighborhood called the Cultural District. The District is one of the country's largest land masses "curated" by a single nonprofit arts organization. A major catalytic force in the city, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is a unique model of how public-private partnerships can reinvent a city with authenticity, innovation, and creativity. Using the arts as an economic catalyst, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has holistically created a world-renowned Cultural District that is revitalizing the city, improving the regional economy and enhancing Pittsburgh's quality of life. Thanks to the support of foundations, corporations, government agencies and thousands of private citizens, the Trust stands as a national model of urban redevelopment through the arts.
