Pittsburgh CLO's Names New Chairman of the Board and Directors

The Pittsburgh CLO Membership is proud to announce the election of Helen Hanna Casey as Pittsburgh CLO's new Chairman of the Board of Directors. She is the 15th Chairman in the organization's history and the first woman to serve in this role. The membership also elected two new directors during its Annual Meeting on February 1, 2018 at the Duquesne Club, Downtown. This annual gathering of Pittsburgh's finest working professionals and community-oriented individuals commemorated an exceptional year at Pittsburgh CLO - highlighted by the culmination of the Next Generation $10 million Capital Campaign, welcoming home the Pittsburgh Premiere of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS in tandem with a celebration of Van Kaplan's 20th year at the helm of Pittsburgh CLO and launching the precursor of the SPARK festival with Pittsburgh CLO's inaugural New Musicals Weekend.

New members of the Pittsburgh CLO Board include:

  • Stephen S. Bloomburg: Principal, Post & Schell, P.C.
  • Deborah Rice-Johnson:
    President, Highmark Health Plan and Diversified Businesses, Highmark, Inc.

This talented group joins 20 renewing Directors, 51 current Directors and 11 Ex-Officio Directors in their effort to fulfill the organization's mission. Through their leadership, participation on 13 standing committees, personal and corporate donations and attendance at performances and fundraising events, the Board continues to show unwavering support for this valuable Pittsburgh institution. They are also committed to the furnishing of arts education and providing outreach and meaningful community service opportunities in Western Pennsylvania.

About the new Chairman of the Board of Directors

Helen Hanna Casey
Helen Hanna Casey is CEO of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, the third largest real estate company and the largest privately-owned real estate company in the United States. An industry leader with more than four decades of experience in the real estate business, Helen will be receiving the Enterprising Woman of the Year Award. Also, Inman News has named Casey as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Real Estate, the Swanepoel Power 200 has named her the Most Powerful and Influential Woman in Real Estate and she has received numerous other awards and honors.

She currently serves as Chair of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) 2018 Corporate Ally Program Advisory Board and served as Chair of NAR's 2017 Corporate Investor Council. Just as dedicated to the community, Casey is a member of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development Executive Committee, is a member of the International Women's Forum, is a past chair of the greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce and past chair of the Carlow University Board of Trustees. She also sits on the board of TriState Capital Bank. In addition, she is a requested keynote and featured speaker in the industry to women's groups and business leaders throughout the country.

Howard Hanna Real Estate Services is a family-owned and operated company with three generations of the Hanna family involved in day-to-day operations. Howard Hanna is the No. 1 home seller in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York with 271 offices and more than 9,000 sales associates and employees across the eight states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Virginia, Michigan, West Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland. Its portfolio of real estate services includes residential and commercial brokerage, mortgage, title, insurance, relocation, appraisal and property management.

Helen lives in Pittsburgh with her husband, Stephen, who is an architect. Helen and Stephen's love of theater has led them to be producers of eight Broadway shows. They have attended three Tony Award shows.

About the New CLO Board Members
(In alphabetical order)

Stephen S. Bloomburg is a Principal in Post & Schell, P.C.'s Workers' Compensation Department. In his law practice, he represents a wide array of clients, from national corporations to small, locally-owned businesses. Mr. Bloomburg also specializes in representing the airline industry, including the representation of national and regional airline carriers, aircraft and avionics manufacturers and businesses servicing the in-flight and ground operations of the airline industry. Mr. Bloomburg was selected for inclusion in the 2014, 2015 and 2018 editions of Philadelphia Magazine's "Pennsylvania Super Lawyer - Rising Stars," a listing of the top 2.5 percent of attorneys in the Commonwealth who are 40 or younger or have been practicing for fewer than 10 years. He holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh and earned his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

Mr. Bloomburg has been actively involved with Pittsburgh CLO since 2009. He served as Co-Chair of the Pittsburgh CLO Ambassadors' 2013 and 2014 Wine Tasting and Silent Auction and as President of the Pittsburgh CLO Ambassadors from 2015 to 2018.

Deborah L. Rice-Johnson is president of Highmark Health Plan and Diversified Businesses for Highmark Inc. In this role, Ms. Rice-Johnson is responsible for providing senior leadership and strategic direction for Highmark's core health insurance business, serving 5.3 million customers and managing more than $15 billion in revenue. Additionally, she has responsibility for product development, provider networks and reimbursement, clinical services, sales, and operations. Ms. Rice-Johnson is also responsible for Highmark's insurance-based subsidiaries: United Concordia Dental (UCD) and HM Insurance Group (HMIG).

Ms. Rice-Johnson has more than 30 years of experience in the health insurance industry. She has held a variety of management positions at Highmark and its predecessor company. Throughout her career, Ms. Rice-Johnson has developed a passion for improving the health care experience, particularly as it relates to oncology services. Additionally, she is committed to positively impacting the employment situation of our nation's military veterans through championing private-sector hiring efforts.

In addition to her position at Highmark, Ms. Rice-Johnson serves on the boards of the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Carlow University, the Duquesne Club, Blue Health Intelligence and the Whitaker Center. Additionally, she serves as Board Chair of the Epilepsy Foundation Western/Central Pennsylvania and as board president for Variety the Children's Charity. Ms. Rice-Johnson holds a bachelor's degree in business management from Carlow University. In 2014 she was named a Carlow Laureate, the university's most prestigious alumni award recognizing those whose work, thought, and action demonstrate the highest standards of professional accomplishment and leadership.
