Sherab Khandro Brings Peace to the Goldenstein Gallery

By:

September 21 marks the 35th Anniversary of the International Day of Peace, established in 1981 by the United Nations. Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace. On September 16, 2016, the Secretary-General of the United Nations will celebrate the Day in the Peace Garden at United Nations Headquarters by ringing the Japanese Peace Bell and observing a minute of silence. In Sedona, the public is invited to take part in "Everyday Peace", the dedication of Sherab Khandro's "Wheel of Compassion" sculpture at L'Auberge de Sedona on Wednesday September 21, at 11am.

In 2012 Sedona was honored to receive a proclamation from the United Nations making Sedona the 35th International City of Peace. In the past four years nearly 100 others have been added across the globe. "Everyday Peace" is one of several Sedona City of Peace events.

"Everyday Peace" guests will have the opportunity to write their intentions down and place them in a bowl next to the wheel and spin the wheel releasing billions of intentions for Peace, Love and Compassion as the wheel turns. Sherab Khandro will lead the intention setting ceremony and speak about the Wheel of Compassion. Talented singer, songwriter, musician Suzie Schomaker will perform live music.

Painter and sculptor Sherab (Shey) Khandro wishes to inspire the hearts and minds of others. She is one of a handful of early western artists to receive formal training from Buddhist masters in exile in the US, bringing forth traditional sacred art in the way it has been done in Tibet for centuries. Using the neo-impressionist style of pointillism in her paintings, tiny dots of color create vibrant imagery; each stroke of the brush holds the intention of compassion.

This healing intention also carries through in her sculpture. In 2006 she received a grant from the City of Sedona Department of Arts and Culture Commission to develop a prayer wheel in the Tibetan Buddhist style. A year later, during Goldenstein Gallery's November 2007 show "Chi" Art as a Healing Medium", Khandro unveiled the pre-cast of the limited edition bronze "Wheel of Compassion."

You can see more of Sherab Khandro's work including paintings, her intentional jewelry line and interactive sculptures such as the Wheel of Compassion at Goldenstein Gallery.

"Everyday Peace" takes place at 11am on Wednesday, September 21st at L'Auberge de Sedona. The public is invited to join artist Sherab Khandro, and send their intentions for peace into the world. L'Auberge De Sedona is located in Uptown Sedona and has partnered with Goldenstein Gallery in creating a rich and vibrant arts scene through their collection of fine works, the gallery's changing exhibitions and diverse Artists in Residence program. Shey Khandro is often found painting creekside at the charming resort. Check the gallery's website for the Artist in Residence schedule.
