NIGHT BIRD SONG Documentary to Screen at The Nash Today

"Night Bird Song: The Incandescent Life of Thomas Chapin," a moving music biography about the late alto sax/flute player will be screened December 29, 7:30 p.m., at The Nash, 110 E. Roosevelt St.

Emmy-winning documentary filmmaker Stephanie J. Castillo will attend and take audience questions about the 89-minute film after the screening.

Tickets are on sale at www.newcarpa.org or at the door on the night of the event. General admission is $7.

Chapin, who died from leukemia in 1998 at the height of his career, was a brilliant jazz master who toured the United States and Europe in the 90's. He left an indelible mark on the jazz and music scene. Downbeat Magazine has called him "a potent force" in jazz.

"Night Bird Song" has been called as "a masterpiece", "inspiring" and "a beautiful tribute." The documentary has been screened at the New York City International Film Festival and in cities across the U.S., as well as Canada, France and the Philippines. Castillo is scheduled to screen the film soon in London and Copenhagen.

This is Castillo's 10th documentary film. Among her awards: Best Story at the International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema NICE for "Night Bird Song."
