Conversation Around Healing From Sexual Assault Next Up For The Bridge Initiative Image

The Bridge Initiative is honored to welcome playwright Dayle Ann Hunt to Arizona for a free public reading of The Trauma Brain Project on Sunday, October 14th at 4:00pm at the ASU Kerr Cultural Center. This play presents a survivor of childhood sexual assault from the early attacks through her journey to healing. It has been performed at conferences for the medical and psychotherapy communities, as well as for lay audiences in Houston, Chicago and New York City. Hunt has reworked the script and the Scottsdale presentation will be the new text's world premiere.

The play reading will be directed by local favorite Alaina Beauloye and features Valley actors Taylor Moschetti, Tommi A'mal, and Christy Sweeney. There will be a talkback after the reading with the playwright, director, and cast, and licensed therapists will be present as a resource and to answer questions that may arise.

"This event will be intense," said Brenda Jean Foley, producing artistic director of The Bridge Initiative. "Creating a safe space for this conversation is extremely important. And given the latest national headlines and the Me Too movement, having an open, honest, and healing conversation about sexual assault is imperative." The event is co-presented with ASU Kerr as the October selection for a monthly play reading and music series entitled Her Voice featuring plays written by female playwrights, crafted by professional Valley actors and directors, and presented free of charge to the community. The full Her Voice series schedule can be found at bridgeinit.org. For more information about The Trauma Brain Project, visit thetraumabrainproject.com.

The Bridge Initiative incubates and celebrates professional female theatre artists, promoting gender parity across all theatrical disciplines. Support provided by the ASU Kerr Cultural Center and individual donors/supporters of The Bridge Initiative.
