Manila, Philippines--"Gugmang Giatay" (with English supertitles) plays limited run at the Globe Auditorium, Maybank Performing Arts Theatre (BGC Arts Center, 26th Street, Taguig City) via the BGC Passionfest on Sunday, November 26, at 4 p.m. Additional performances are set from Tuesday, November 28, until Thursday, November 30, at 8 p.m.

Written by Bisaya music advocate Jude Gitamondoc and Rowell "Medyo Maldito" Ucat, this BisRock (Bisayan Rock) jukebox musical is your (a)typical romantic comedy, which features a good dose of maoy moments, hugot lines, and acerbic Bisaya humor. The musical is made up of landmark Bisaya hit songs, both contemporary and classic, written by Max Surban, Cattski Espina, Insoy Ninal, Gitamondoc, Medyo Maldito, and Junior Kilat, among others.

The video above shows actor-singer Von Saw (Undo) performing Smooth Friction's "Solid og Lawas" from the musical; Saw, alongside Jacky Chang, Hey Joe Show, and Timmy Pavino, is one of the featured artists at Gitamondoc's Kadasig, originally, a crowdfunding project that aimed at producing and releasing at least one Bisaya song per month.

"We want Bisaya music to have a life of its own. Bisaya songwriters actually have a huge playing field, there's really so much uncharted territory," Gitamondoc told BroadwayWorld.com in an exclusive interview.

He added: "We want to empower Bisaya songwriters to write and produce more songs. How do we do that? We want to make sure that the business is sustainable. In other words, we want the artists to be fed by their art. So we're taking baby steps towards that direction. Our first step: convincing our audience to support the artists by paying for their music."

"Gugmang Giatay" (Sick Love) follows a small, close-knit neighborhood that gets #shookt when Inday, a down-to-earth girl, lets slip that all is not well in her relationship with Undo, her long-time musician boyfriend. A surprising sequence of events ensues as gossip, pretense, and confessions lead them and their closest friends and associates to address the situation in their own well-meaning but often misguided ways--accompanied by many dangerous complications. The disparate group proves that while love is indeed jinxed, it can still lead to surprisingly desirable ends, if one lets it.

Besides Saw, the show also features thespians Bong Cabrera, Lourdes May Maglinte, Shiella Pestaño-Gemperoa, Shane Reseroni, Joer Gallur, Paola Pia San Diego, Jeyve Daño, Jan Echevarria, Davelyn Cuenco, Heidi Pogoy, Alem Garcia, Malaya Macaraeg, Kristian Ray Malintad, Dion Cecilio, Lauire Tul-id, and Dustin Tagalog

Directed by Edison Saynes, "Gugmang Giatay" made its world premiere two years ago, following on the heels of Gitamondoc's first hit musical "You've Been Facebooked" (2014).
