THE LION KING Opens To Packed Houses At Taipei Arena

Presented by Michael Cassel Group and KHAM INC in association with Disney Theatrical Productions, the world's number one musical, THE LION KING, will have its Taipei gala opening in the company of Taiwan's top media and celebrities at the Taipei Arena on 24 July for a limited 2 week season until 4 August.

Returning to Taiwan after 11 years, the 2019 production has already broken Taiwanese box-office records previously set by the show in 2008. For the first time since the International Touring production opened in Manila in March 2018, the show will be presented in an arena, set up in theatre-mode which will ensure each 5,900-strong audience are given a truly theatrical experience.

"THE LION KING is in its 21st year and Tony Award winning director Julie Taymor and her creative team have brought together a truly global cast and crew for this tour, with 19 nationalities represented. We're thrilled the show is resonating so strongly with Taiwanese audiences" said Thomas Schumacher, President & Producer, Disney Theatrical Productions.

"In our second year, the international tour has now visited 4 countries and 7 cities and continues to capture the hearts and minds of audiences around the world" commented Michael Cassel, Producer of THE LION KING International Tour.

"And Taiwanese audiences have the unique experience of witnessing this landmark musical in the most theatrical setting. Our preview audiences' overwhelming reactions are a true testament to Julie Taymor's award-winning production and the international cast and crew who bring the pride lands to life."

THE LION KING will play in Taipei until 4 August 2019 before transferring to Bangkok for a season at the Muangthai Rachadalai Theatre from 14 September, followed by a season at Hong Kong's Asia-World Expo from 18 December. Tickets for the Taipei, Bangkok and Hong Kong seasons are now on sale. Further engagements of THE LION KING will be announced later in the year.
