Manila, Philippines - The best-selling book and winner of the National Book Award for Fiction Novel in Filipino in 2015, Si Janus Silang at ang Tiyanak ng Tabon, written by Edgar Calabia Samar, has been adapted into a stage play, bearing the same title, runs this weekend at St. Mary's College in Quezon City.
Guelan Varela-Luarca* adapts the book into a 90-minute play; Jaime Bolok directs the production, featuring mostly student actors and some young professionals, including 10-year-old Santino Juan Santiago (The Lion King, Yey!), who plays the role of Juno.
"In a TALA Online tournament in the town of Balanga, all the players fell dead, save for Janus. Soon after that, teen after teen suffered deaths in computer shops around the country. Janus was contacted by someone who calls himself Joey, apparently another survivor of TALA like him. Janus did not expect the truths he would discover, weaving him into the mystery of RPG that enthralled him - and into the legend of the Tiyanak from Tabon," says Adarna House, the book's publisher.
The complete cast features Froilan Rodijero (Janus Silang), Erika Joy Martinez (Mica), Sahara Hope Salvacion (Josie, mother of Janus), Rheyanne Pauline Bautista (Na Minda, mother of Harold), Bon (Kapitan), Sandra Bonghanoy (teacher, player), Judy Ann Calaunan (principal), Divine Melanie Tolentino (player, Taong Tabon), Amiel Arejuela (Limuel), Rajib Marangit (Harold, ermitanyo), Ella Mae Nicolas (player, Taong Tabon), Bryan Villamor (konduktor, player, student), Joben Calimpas (Mang Isyo, Bagani), Jerome (Joey, Bagani), Joel Lorejo (Renzo, Bagani), Ereca Arsaga (Mananggal), Donny (Tiyanak), Almie Mollona (Pilandok), Lawrence (Boss Serj), Sarah Burjos (Cel), Gracy Dela Cruz (student), and Santino Juan Santiago (Juno).
