Laguna, Philippines, September 13, 2013-- The University of the Philippines Los Banos Department of Humanities-Division of Speech Communication and Performing Arts is all set for the Philippine premiere of "Banwa!" (town) on Wednesday, September 25 at the Senior Social Garden (SSG), UP Los Banos.

"Banwa!" is written for the stage by Om Velasco, which was inspired by Edward Mast's "Jungalbook," based on the original novel "Jungle Book" by Nobel Prize winner Rudyard Kipling.

The play touches on territoriality, culture, folklore, ritual and the laws that bind its characters. Kawayan--played by Trevor Lim, Gife Laforteza and Ronald Paolo Luna--the main character, is raised in the thick of the jungle that is full of wild animals; he is torn between choosing to live with three "God-given" creatures and going back to where he came from.

Its staging, directed by Joey Ting, explores Dadaism, contemporary pop art and culture, industrial and machine art installations, stylistic movements, techno-folkloric music and circus-like stunts.

Besides Lim, Laforteza and Luna, student actors Christian Alfajora, Brylle James Galang and Kristofer Abe Pojas also star in "Banwa!"

The rest of the team members include Jeremy Dela Cruz (movement), Janelle Cabrera and Renz Nollase (set design), Maria Carina Quintos and Alecx Bagotsolon (costume design), Ma. Angel Dayao (music consultant), Alfred Dalisay (original music composition and arrangement), Karla Napay (light design), Julio Luna (sound design), Ivan Malaluan, Dave Soltura and Mylene Mamalias (student director apprentices), Nilo Berdin III and Arby Duero (student choreographers), Jea Agnes Buera (managing director), Charissa Caneso and Keira Eco (production managers), Nashla Locsin and Bianca Veluz (stage managers) and Harold Medina and Nikki Villaluna (technical directors).

"Banwa!" runs until Friday, September 27 with 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. performances.
