The Kammerspiel presents the world premiere of The Melon's Cry, an original play written and directed by Effie Kammer, as part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. A retelling of Christina Rossetti's Victorian poem Goblin Market, the play is set in the halls of a private high school in New York City on the eve of September 11, 2001, tracing the shared lives of Laura and Lizzie. It explores duality, self-discovery, and destructive powers amid sexual activity and intellectual awakening. The production stars Sylvie Schuetz, Brynn Smith, Lawrence Neil, Tom Schmitt, Jordan Eck, Jack Degan, Kevin Esmond, and Shel Griffin.
