What do Josh Young, Kait Kerrigan, Brian Lowdermilk, Marcus Stevens and Carey Brown have in common? They all grew up learning about theatre at Young People's Theatre Workshop in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. In fact, Kerrigan and Lowdermilk will be teaching a workshop on June 27th at YPTW's Theatre Arts Overnight Camp. The camp is a 5 night camp held at Eastern University in St. Davids, PA. Go to YPTW.org for more information.

Currently, the students at YPTW are getting ready to present the musical Once On This Island. When ONCE ON THIS ISLAND debuted in New York in 1990, both audience and critics raved. In The New York Times, Frank Rich raved that the lyrics were "simple, direct, and poignant," and that the audience was likely to leave the theater "ready to dance down the street." Young People's Theatre Workshop will open this musical by Flaherty and Ahrens, composers of Seussical and Ragtime, on the mainstage of The Players Club of Swarthmore on May 27th. It features gifted young actors in grades 2 - 12, a live band and full scale sets and costumes. The performance dates are May 27, 28, 31, June 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m., May 30 at 6:00 p.m. and May 29 and June 5 at 2:00 p.m. All tickets are $12.00 and all seats are reserved.

Although an ensemble show, a number of actors have featured roles. In the role of Ti Moune, the peasant girl, is Daisy Getz of Swarthmore. Luke Clements of Swarthmore plays the wealthy Daniel Beauxhomme. In the roles of the Gods of the island are Emma and Gib Hartley of Media, Anna Ferrigno of Springfield and Jack Stief of Swarthmore. Jeremy Marcus of Wallingford and Hannah Wilcox of Malvern portray Ti Moune's guardians and Annie Byers is Andrea, Ti Moune's rival for Daniel's love. The production staff includes Darrin Peters, Liz Seymour Serpentine, Claudia Carlsson, Gina Giachero, Paul Kerrigan, father of the aforementioned Kait, Chris Serpentine, Bob Moore and Jolene Petrowski, Joseph Southard, Reba Ferdman, Dot Kowal and Cindy Schneeman.
