The musical comedy phenomenon “Hairspray” comes to Upper Darby Summer Stage! “Hairspray” is the full-scale, Broadway caliber Mainstage production at Summer Stage and will appeal to the most discriminating admirers of musical theater and features a cast of young adults up to the age of 28.
Winner of eight Tony Awards including “Best Musical, ” “Hairspray” offers one of the most upbeat scores including audience favorites “Welcome to the 60s,” “I Can Hear the Bells,” “Good Morning Baltimore,” and the unforgettable, “You Can’t Stop the Beat!” Critics hailed “Hairspray” when it shimmied onto the Broadway stage in 2003. The New York Times announced, “If life were everything it should be, it would be more like ‘Hairspray.’ It’s irresistible!” “Hairspray” transports audience members back to 1962 with a score inspired by the exhilarating ‘60s musical styles of Motown, Elvis, rhythm and blues, and rock 'n' roll.
