'Tis the season at The Philadelphia Orchestra!

The Glorious Sound of Christmas (December 16-18, 2010)

The Fabulous Philadelphians lend their lush sound to festive favorites with Glorious Sound of Christmas. Named for the Orchestra's best-selling Christmas album, this joyful program includes sparkling carols-"Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," "O Come, All Ye Faithful," and "O Holy Night"-and timeless holiday classics -Sleigh Ride and excerpts from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker-led by Associate Conductor Rossen Milanov and featuring the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia.

A special addition to this year's program is William Holcombe's 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, which brings to life the wondrous world of Clement Clarke Moore's beloved poem through narration set to music. The narrator will be announced at a later date. Ideal for listeners of all ages, these merry concerts are sure to put you into the holiday spirit!

Handel's Messiah (December 19, 2010)

Messiah, the oratorio that Handel penned in 24 days in the summer of 1741, remains a miracle of musical creation, not just because of the speed with which it was composed but because of its unflagging inspiration and extraordinary durability. This Baroque classic has become as integral to the American holiday season as Dickens's A Christmas Carol or the film It's a Wonderful Life.

This winter, join conductor Paul Goodwin and The Philadelphia Orchestra for the ensemble's 50th consecutive annual performance of Handel's Messiah. Soprano Lisa Saffer, mezzo-soprano Michelle DeYoung, tenor Gordon Gietz, baritone Christòpheren Nomura, and The Philadelphia Singers Chorale (David Hayes, Music Director) join the Orchestra for this performance.
