The Philly POPS will bring The Music of Elton John to the Kimmel Center on November 10, 11, and 12. Michael Cavanaugh and his energetic rock band will join the POPS.

When Cavanaugh performed The Music of Billy Joel with the POPS in 2016, all three shows sold out and audiences called for his return to the POPS stage. This season, the POPS and Cavanaugh will pay tribute to Elton John's greatest hits, including "Rocket Man," "Tiny Dancer," "Your Song," "Candle in the Wind," "Crocodile Rock," and "Philadelphia Freedom."

An in-demand artist who tours the globe, Cavanaugh earned Grammy and Tony nominations as the lead in Broadway's Movin' Out. Celebrated guest conductor Stuart Chafetz leads this tribute to Elton John, complemented with music by his contemporaries: Paul McCartney, Pete Townshend, and many more.

Sir Elton John owns a five-decade career with over 300 million records sold and thirty albums recorded. He has charted more than fifty Top 40 hits with at least one song on the Billboard Top 100 for thirty-one straight years from 1970-2000. Philadelphia Freedom, penned for Billie Jean King's culturally resonant Philadelphia-based tennis team, is perhaps the one that comes to mind for most Philadelphians.

The Philly POPS and Elton John share a special honor: performing on Independence Day in Philadelphia, the birthplace of our nation, at July 4, 2005's Philadelphia Freedom Concert. The benefit concert raised considerable funds for HIV/AIDS education and treatment organizations. The Philly POPS orchestra actually performed on-stage with Elton John that night.

All guests are welcome to arrive 90 minutes prior to each concert for free pre-concert entertainment, including a conversation led by CBS Radio Philadelphia's RJ McKay with guest conductor Stuart Chafetz on Friday, WMGK's Debbi Calton on Saturday, and a Home Rock Band (recently featured in WHYY's documentary Home: A Rockumentary) performance on Saturday in the Kimmel Center lobby. Also on Saturday, the winner of WMGK's Essence of Elton contest will perform.

Tickets: $35-$145
