Sherlock Holmes and the Baker Street Irregulars Opens at YLT 10/29

YLT's original comedy-mystery, Sherlock Holmes and the Baker Street Irregulars, opens YLT's 2010-11 rabbittransit children's series on Friday, October 29. It's the story of Holmes, the greatest detective, who finds himself under house arrest and must turn to his gang of street urchins, the Baker Street Irregulars, to help solve his mysteries. But even with the help of Dr. Watson and the interest of a mysterious benefactor, these young sleuths soon find themselves caught in a tangled web that even the mighty Holmes could not easily unravel.

The original script was written for YLT by Heather Wallen, who got the assignment in April. "This was my first time writing a full script and it was a lot of fun partly because I could cater the show to our theatre," explains Wallen. She says the most difficult part of writing was making the humor appealing to all ages. Once the show was cast and the read-through began, "I felt giddy at hearing my words out loud."

Director Deaven Brown credits Wallen with writing an enjoyable show. Explains Brown. "This show is very entertaining! It's full of humor for all ages and it's really a morality tale-people aren't always what they seem to be." This is Brown's Directorial debut and he is thrilled with the opportunity. "I love being able to make a show the way I see it," says Brown. "It's been a great learning experience and I would definitely do it again."

The local cast of approximately 40 young actors features a large ensemble which Brown feels adds a lot of depth to the production. "It was challenging to work them in, but they definitely round out the production. I have a wonderful cast." Principle actors include Josh Olewiler, who portrays Sherlock Holmes, Mario Ricchiuto as Watson, Phil Rooney as Jack, EmiLynn Barber as Emma, Lisa Gildea as Minnie, Hillary Henson as Grace Morgan, Sam Rooney as Seamus, Dave Kallstrom as The Commissioner, Lilly Gorski as Annabelle and Mary McCleary as Josephine Morgan.

Performances are on October 29, 30, November 5 and 6 at 7 p.m; and on October 30, 31, November 6 and 7 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10, all reserved.
