SWEENEY TODD's Sarah Rice Makes New Hope Debut, 9/2

By:

Sarah Rice, who first received attention as Johanna in original Broadway cast of Stephen Sondheim's multiple-award winning musical, "Sweeney Todd," brings her show "Screen Gems" to Bob Egan's in New Hope, Friday, September 2. Show time is at 8:30 pm. Tickets are $30.00

Rice, who was the winner of the 2010 Bistro and 2011 MAC awards for Best Female Vocalist, will present songs chosen from film scores that were either sung by or dedicated to stars and their movie roles in the films of old Hollywood.

Rice's musical salute will include songs made popular through the great silent film stars -- Rudolph Valentino, Theda Bara, Helen Kane (the original boop-a-doop girl, prototype of Betty Boop) through Hollywood's Golden Years, which featured singing personalities like Doloris Del Rio, Kathryn Grayson, Jeannette Mac Donald and more. With special guest star Frank Basile, she will explore several musical styles that emerged from Hollywood from America film' early days through the 1960s. Seth Weinstein joins Rice on the piano.

Audiences can expect to hear music penned by Nacio Herb Brown, Georges Auric, Moises Vivanco, Nino Rota, Jerome Kern, The Sherman Bros., Byron Gay, Ted Snyder and many others.

What the critics are saying:
"For a guided tour through varied vintage movie melodies, Sarah Rice's show is just the ticket..." - Cabaret Scenes

"If the glorious gods that govern cabaret were to take the coloratura vocal stylings and elegance of Barbara Cook, merge them with the earthiness and humor of Baby Jane Dexter, and wrap the whole package in a unique bundle of sparkle, the end result would without question be Sarah Rice. And by the time Rice brings the evening to a close, with a singularly unique version of Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini's "Moon River," the crowd gathered is not merely her fans but a worshiping cult." - Andrew Martin, Nightlife Exchange

"In her entertaining new cabaret show of songs from or about "old Hollywood," it is evident that her voice remains a ravishing instrument... Not only is her acting commanding and her singing exemplary...the result is quite simply the best and most riveting rendition of "Pirate Jenny" I've ever heard..."- Roy Sander, Bistro Awards

Bob Egan's Cabaret Supper Club is located at the Ramada of New Hope, 6426 Lower York Road (Route 202) in New Hope, PA.
