The smash hit stage musical, RESPECT:A Musical Journey of Women has will end its extension at Philadelphia's Society Hill Playhouse on Sunday, May 23rd.
RESPECT is a funny, exuberant look at the lives of women using songs to tell the tale of women's evolving roles through the 20th century. The popular musical--- featuring favorite Top 40 songs including "I Will Survive," "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'," "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," "I Will Follow Him," "Stand By Your Man," "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," and more--- first premiered last year at Bucks County's Act II Playhouse and closed a history-making 12-week run for the theatre from May 2 to Aug. 2, 2009.The original version of Respect, inspired by Dorothy Marcic's book, Respect: Women and Popular Music, began in 1999 as a series of one-woman presentations and was developed into a full-scale musical theatre piece, presented for the first time in 2004. The show has been performed to sold-out crowds at several venues around the country, including West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale, FL, Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
