Puppet Manualfesto (Philadelphia's new puppet slam) presents an adult-friendly evening at Walking Fish Theatre, a showcase of short puppetry vignettes. There will be 2 performances: 7 & 9 p.m. Saturday, October 6th, 2012.

Join us as Puppet Manualfesto celebrates short-form puppetry and community, embracing a multitude of performance aesthetics. If it involves puppetry, mask work or object theatre we want to see and share it with everyone else. We promise a night filled with 2 to 10 minute gems of live puppetry, music by our house band: Up Your Cherry and our house troupe F.O.P.I (found object puppet improve) to kick things off, our list of live variety acts keeps on growing, so check our Facebook page for updates and follow us on Twitter @ PManualfesto.

There will be short film screenings between set-ups, including Lindsey Martin’s “Love Letters”. Audiences will see a variety of puppeteers performing edgy and provocative works that won't be seen in mainstream venues. Content ranges from the raunchy and risqué to the tender and tear-jerking, in a fast moving succession of both rough and polished acts. Watch as artists redefine conventional notions of puppetry. Sock-puppet mayhem may ensue as puppeteers breed new strains of creativity.
ABOUT PUPPET MANAUALFESTO:

The puppetry slam is a new movement, which has been spreading across the country in night clubs, cafes, and fringe festivals. Slams are an opportunity to feature short experimental pieces and to encourage artists not generally involved with puppetry to explore this exciting medium; an open-mic night for puppeteers. Our definition of puppetry is broad and inclusive of any performance medium that involves performing objects, masks, puppets and movement. Stop on in and give it a try either on stage or in the audience. Applause winners of this slam will be awarded a fishy price and invited to face off future participants at our 2013 slam events.

Puppet Manualfesto (Philadelphia’s newest puppet slam) has been awarded a grant by the Puppet Slam Network (PSN) www.puppetslam.com to hold these adult-oriented puppetry showcases at Walking Fish Theatre throughout 2012. Puppet Manualfesto’s founder Martina Plag organizes and curates these showcases. Martina Plag is also founding artistic director of the puppetry atelier studium-praxis, est. 2008.

Walking Fish Theatre serves as host-theater and fiscal sponsor of these events through PSN.
Puppet Manualfesto’s showcase will be held at the Walking Fish Theatre, located in the burgeoning arts corridor in the Kensington/Fishtown area of Philadelphia at 2509 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19125. www.bsomeday.org
