Susan Messing will be visiting PHIT for one weekend only August 6-8th, and we couldn't be more excited. As a graduate from Northwestern University a former performer on The Second City mainstage and an ensemble member of Annoyance Theatre she has one of the most extensive resumes in the country. Her essays have been published in The Second City Almanac of Improvisation and in Charna Halpern's book, Art By Committee, and she has performed on NBC's Late Friday, Comedy Central's Premium Blend along with her puppet Jolly, and showcased at the HBO/US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen.

During her brief visit Susan will bring her critically-acclaimed improvised show, Messing With a Friend (which currently plays at the Annoyance Theatre in Chicago every Thursday night) to PHIT for one-night only on August 7th, bring a very, very special guest for New York City: Becky Drysdale.

But it's her workshops that we are perhaps most excited about - check them out below:

Character Workshop, Saturday 8/7 from 3-6pm with Susan Messing
Get some character, so you don't stand there as yourself and argue until we're all bored to tears. Lots of specificity to pull out the comedy instead of hoping you'll be funny and then wanting to kill yourself. Your work will become more effortless, whether in long or short form.

Group Pretty Workshop, Sunday 8/8 from 11am-2pm with Susan Messing
GROUP PRETTY: Make your performances more visually interesting, because you are on a stage after all. Learn everything pretty so you don't have to sit around like an asshole while everyone else gets to play and stage picture looks gorgeous - flying, symmetry, story theatre, and the mysterious busby berkley!
