Unlike our Spring 2008 auditions where we cast three Resident Group teams that have become a permanent part of PHIT this time we will be auditioning for two very special Fringe projects that we are excited to get off the ground. You are free to audition for just one production, or to audition for both. Hopefully the shorter commitment that these projects involve will encourage people were concerned about getting involved in a long-term project to come on out an join us. Depending on the success of each Fringe show we cast these groups may continue in some form after September.

When are where are auditions being held?
Date: Sunday, July 19th
Place: The Shubin Theatre, 407 Bainbridge Street, Philly, PA 19104
Time: noon-4pm

How do I get an audition?
In order to audition you must reply to this message to request an audition. Please include your name, email address, and telephone number in your message. You will receive a response with an assigned audition time.

Auditions are open to anyone - including those who are currently working with PHIT or have worked with PHIT in the past. Everyone who is interested in being cast in either of the projects below must attend auditions, we are not casting anyone in advance and we are not casting anyone who cannot make the auditions on July 19th.

What are these special projects?
Production #1 (IMPROV): Three Mad Rituals
Performances (at The Adrienne Theatre): 9/6 8:30pm, 9/13 1pm, 9/15 7pm, 9/18 8:30

Three Mad Rituals is back-to-back-to-back improv sets from a single group of improvisers, inspired by a single suggestion that blend to create a single, hilarious, one-of-a-kind show. The brainchild of Chicago improv guru Del Close (1934-1999), this year's Fringe run will be the Philadelphia premiere of this classic performance format! Performers wishing to audition for Three Mad Rituals will take part in an improvised audition.

Production #2 (IMPROV-TO-SCRIPT): Abrdgd Frng
Performances (at The Adrienne Theatre): 9/7 8:30pm, 9/14 8:30pm, 9/19 5pm

Abrdgd Frng is your chance to be part of a unique project that will allow those with limited time and money to see the entire Fringe Festival in 90 minutes or less. Abrdgd Frng presents 60 second versions of every single performance in the festival, in the order they are requested by the audience. Everyone who attends will receive a Fringe guide and host for the evening will continuously solicit titles from the audience which the performers of Abrdgd Frng will then stage after the show's description is read aloud to the crowd. Performers wishing to audition for Abrdgd Frng willl be asked to submit a 1-page spoof of a show from last year's Fringe Festival (show descriptions available at www.pafringe.org) that should run no longer than 60 seconds. They will also complete a short improv audition.

When are rehearsals?
Rehearsals will begin in August and will be once per week. Abrdgd Frng will have a special "Writer's Room" rehearsal the weekend of August 7-9 (exact date to be determined) that will last an entire day or evening and lead to the creation of the bulk of the script. In addition, a tech/dress rehearsal at least one evening from August 30- Sept 2nd on the stage of The Adrienne Theatre.

I haven't improvised in a while/taken a class/done anything with PHIT, can I still audition?
Of course you can! We are looking for the most talented casts we can assemble, and just because you haven't done something in a while or with us specifically does not mean you aren't talented. Seriously, we'll take anyone who fits either of the projects.

If you're feeling rusty or are worried we don't know you at all, might we suggest taking one of our workshops on July 18? These are The Day Before the audition and might help your improv muscles get a workout if you're nervous. Workshop info/registration is here.
