Open Stage of Harrisburg's STORIES FROM HOME: MARKET2MARKET Plays Now thru 6/30
Open Stage of Harrisburg will take a look at two of Harrisburg's most vibrant neighborhoods of today and yesterday: Market Square and Broad Street. Experience the stories of three businesses that helped shape Harrisburg: JH Troup and Co., The Broad Street Market, and Alsedek's Restaurant. History, drama, music and storytelling combine to celebrate our past and present in the new play STORIES FROM HOME: Market2Market.
STORIES FROM HOME: Market2Market is a company-created piece directed by Open Stage Education Director Anne Alsedek and features Sharia Benn (Open Stage credits include DOUBT and the title role in Ma Rainey'S BLACK BOTTOM), Jaylyn Benn, Lisa Leone Dickerson (THE DIARY OF Anne Frank, THE LAAMIE PROJECT), Adam Gingrich (A LIE OF THE MIND, TALK RADIO), Branka Lukic, Ann E. Rhoads (A LIE OF THE MIND), and Stephanie Trdenic. Benn will sing Bobby Troup's famous "Route 66" in the play.
"It's time to celebrate our city." says Alsedek, who is also co-founder and Education Director for Open Stage. "Harrisburg is a great place to live. The creative team of STORIES FROM HOME has gathered histories and stories that will make you proud to live in Harrisburg again. We all need that right now."
The regional theatre plans to create a new show each June celebrating an aspect of Harrisburg city.
"We have a lot more stories to tell. There will be many more chapters to STORIES FROM HOME. Market2Market is just chapter one," says Stuart Landon, Marketing Manager at Open Stage. "We want the city to get excited and bring us their stories. We hope to have an interactive, online element to this project that anybody can contribute to."
STORIES FROM HOME: Market2Market will play from June 8-30 at Open Stage of Harrisburg's intimate Angino Family Theatre, located at 223 Walnut Street on the Street (S) level of the Walnut Street Garage in downtown Harrisburg. The street entrance is off of Court Street. Join Open Stage for 3rd in the Burg on June 15.
