Meet THE MAN WHO SAVED CHRISTMAS At The Playhouse At Allenberry!
The rich tradition of Christmas musicals at the Allenberry Resort returns this November 23 through December 16, 2018 with The Man Who Saved Christmas, a Merry Holiday Musical!
The Man Who Saved Christmas is based on the true story of A.C. Gilbert, the inventor of The Erector Set, played by Jim Moyer. Set in 1917, as America is embroiled in the First World War, this 'new old-fashioned' crowd-pleaser focuses on Gilbert's battle with the U.S. government as it attempts to ban toy sales during the holiday season.
Added to the mix: A secretary (Amber Emerson) who keeps her heart on ice and a visiting reporter (Nik Olson) determined to thaw it out; the nefarious Iago of the toy factory, Mister Dixon (Adam Estep); Gilbert's loving wife Mary (Becky Wilcox); and the Gilberts' precocious niece Ellen (Kaylee Enck), who untangles the numerous complications in which the young lovers--and the Toy Tycoon--find themselves.
In addition to these characters, the stage is populated by the singing/dancing workers of the A.C. Gilbert Toy Factory, doughboys and their families (Skyler Carran, Caroline Chronister, Michelle Critcher, Mike Holmes, Carly Lafferty, Ron Ross, Axel Routh, Melanie Shirk), a chorus line of high-stepping kiddies (Josh Lamason, Mia Loran, Carissa Williams), and the pompous Washingtonians who wind up sitting on the floor and playing with toys by the time A.C. Gilbert is finished with them!
The Man Who Saved Christmas features a book, music, and lyrics by Ron Lytle. The show is directed by Dustin C. LeBlanc with choreography by Kelly Strange and vocal direction by Mary Butler George. Jeremy Slagle is set designer and costumes are by Janell Berte and Beth Dunkleberger.
The Man Who Saved Christmas will be performed on November 23, 24, 30, December 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 2018 at 7:30 PM and November 24, 25, December 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 2018 at 2:00 PM. The show will be performed at the Playhouse at Allenberry, located at the Allenberry Resort at 1559 Boiling Springs Road, Boiling Springs, PA 17007.
