Theatre Horizon (401 DeKalb Street, Norristown, PA) is battling those mid-summer humdrums with a brand new theatrical production that puts kids right in the center of the action. Hero School, written by Philadelphia artist Jeremy Gable, will lead audience members of all ages in an interactive quest to become heroes-in-training during a run at the Norristown theatre. Inquisitive superhero wannabes, and guests of all ages, can take in the interactive fun from August 4 through August 27, 2017.

An exciting, on-your-feet adventure for kids and their grownups that lets YOU make decisions and be an active participant in the story, Hero School will transform Theatre Horizon into a training camp for superheroes. Audience members (a.k.a., heroes-in-training) will sharpen their super skills while going on an adventure that travels through multiple rooms in the theater. But, beware: when the school is menaced by the villainous Polonium Malograve, the students must put their skills to the test and work together to save the day. The show will be best enjoyed by children ages 4 to 8 and their grownups, but everyone is invited to join in the fun.

Hero School will also present two relaxed performances (Saturday 8/19 at 4PM and Friday 8/25 at 7:30 PM). These performances are specially adjusted sensory-friendly shows, designed to create a theatre experience that is welcoming, judgment-free, and inclusive of children and families with a wide range of sensory, learning, and communication differences, including, but not limited to individuals on the autism spectrum, as well as young children and anyone who might benefit from this relaxed environment. House lights will remain on at a low level in the theater, plus there will be lower sound levels, a reduction of startling lights, freedom to vocalize and leave seats, plus limited crowds during the performance. The Theatre also invites guests to bring noise-cancelling headphones, fidget and stress sensory toys, and/or anything else to ensure maximum comfort and safety during these performances.

Hero School will perform Fridays (5PM, 6:16PM, and 7:30PM), Saturdays (10AM, 11:15AM, 1:30PM, 2:45PM, and 4PM), and Sundays (2PM, 3:15PM, 5:30PM, and 6:45PM). Tickets ($20-25) can be purchased by visiting theatrehorizon.org.
