Gettysburg Stage continues its sixth season with a double feature: Christopher Durang's dark comedy "Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You" and John Patrick Shanley's Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Doubt," opening March 7 at Keefauver Center, Gettysburg.

"This marks the first time we've offered two plays in one evening," notes Gettysburg Stage board president Jim Krut. "Not only is this an exceptional value, we're proud to offer challenging plays with great artistic merit and relevance."
Sit back and relax as Sister Mary Ignatius (Jim Krut), with assistance from her favorite student, Thomas (J.D. Wine), explains to you the basic tenets of Catholicism. Enter four of her former students (portrayed by Ryyn Currey, Stephanie Gross, Colleen Lynch and Jeff Nell) to shake things up as they reveal the deep psychological trauma her teachings left on them.

Sister Mary's unwavering dogma, combined with a dose of absurdity one can only expect from playwright Durang, add elements of biting comedy to this memorable one-act play directed by Rebecca O'Leary.

Before it became an Academy Award-nominated movie starring Meryl Streep, "Doubt" won the coveted Pulitzer Prize for Best Play in 2005. Set in 1964 when the way was being paved for a more liberal Catholicism, "Doubt" tackles a controversial subject and challenges audience members to draw their own conclusions.
When Sister Aloysius (Ann Griffith) suspects Father Flynn (J.D. Wine) of paying special attention to one of the St. Nicholas Parish School's newest students, she confides in an inexperienced young nun (Colleen Lynch) before confronting the priest. When the student's mother (Rhonda Robison) enters the picture, the relationships begin to sizzle with accusations. Is it innocence? How can one defend against such charges? Gettysburg Stage is proud to present this intense drama directed by David Hurlbert and Pamela Hurlbert.
Performance dates and times are Saturdays, March 7, 14 and 21 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 8, 15 and 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and students with current ID, and are available at the door.
