FringeArts' Circus Fest HAND TO HAND Returns This Summer

By:

PHILADELPHIA FringeArts and Circadium School of Contemporary Circus will present the second annual Hand to Hand circus festival this June 28 July 1 at FringeArts. The multi-day fest features internationally-celebrated Compagnia Baccal and new acts by Philadelphia's most talented up-and-coming circus artists. Performances and workshops include acrobatics, aerials, clowning, juggling, and more.

Swiss duo Compagnia Baccal headlines the festival with Pss Pss (June 28 30), an inventive and hilarious comedy of errors inspired by Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and the stars of silent films. The winner of 15 international prizes including the Cirque du Soleil Prize Pss Pss combines physical comedy, clowning, acrobatics, and aerial work, and is suitable for audiences ages 9+.

Accompanying the mainstage performances is Circus Midway, a day of free outdoor workshops and pop-up performances by Philadelphia School of Circus Arts on Sunday, June 30. Attendees of all ages and abilities can learn basic aerial acrobatics, juggling, tight wire, and more from the school's teachers and performers.

As a prequel to Hand to Hand in May, FringeArts will host Circadium Springboad, a showcase of original works by first-year students at Circadium School of Contemporary Circus, the only diploma-granting college for circus in the U.S.

Hand to Hand closes out on Monday, July 1 with Test Flights, a special circus-themed edition of FringeArts' monthly works-in-progress series Scratch Nights, hosted by Ben Grindberg and featuring the work of emerging Philadelphia circus artists.

All events take place at FringeArts at 140 N Columbus Blvd. Tickets are on sale now to FringeArts Members and go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, March 26 at 10am.

Hand to Hand 2019 is presented by PECO
