East Passyunk Looks To Spice Things Up With Spice Girls Pop-Up Choir

By:

Philadelphia, get ready to spice up your life! East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District, South Fellini and Make Music Philadelphia will host a Spice Girls Pop-Up Choir this Thursday, June 21, 2018 during Make Music Day. The general public is invited to channel their best Scary Spice, Sporty Spice, Baby Spice, Ginger Spice and Posh Spice during the free event that will take place at the historic Singing Fountain (at the intersection of 11th Street and East Passyunk). From 7:00pm to 8:00pm, participants will engage in a brief rehearsal led by local singer-songwriter and certified music therapist Carolyn Thorn, followed by a public performance and recording of the night. No experience is necessary - just a love of singing. Participation is free and open to all ages.

"Make Music Day is a worldwide event on the summer solstice to celebrate music," said South Fellini Co-Founder and East Passyunk business owner Tony Trov. "Philadelphia will be full of events all day that invite the public to come out, learn to sing, and have a good time. We're gonna teach everyone the Spice Girls' 'Wannabe.' The East Passyunk community did a pop-up choir during the Christmas season and the area around the Singing Fountain was completely full with over 80 people. The response was so great we wanted to do this again. We just felt like the time was right to plan this over Make Music Day. We have over 200 signed up for our second pop-up choir on Facebook - we can't wait to see what the response will be.

The Spice Girls Pop-Up Choir on East Passyunk is organized as part of Make Music Day, an international musical celebration with concerts on streets, sidewalks and parks in cities around the world.

Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, Make Music Day is now held on the same day in more than 800 cities in 120 countries. Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician - young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion - pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.
