Demetria Joyce Bailey, who channeled the persona of Ethel Waters in "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" when it played at Bristol Riverside Theatre, has her Media Theatre debut in a legendary role of a different type. She will portray the sassy, demanding, and conniving Matron "Mama" Morton in Media's production of the classic hit musical "Chicago" September 28-November 6. "Mama" Morton watches over the female prisoners of Cook County Jail in the satirical look at the criminal justice system.

In "Chicago", which is directed at The Media Theatre by Barrymore Award winner Jennie Eisenhower, Demetria will be focused on taking bribes and supplying her prisoners with contraband. She has also portrayed Lutibelle in "Purlie", Susannah in "Tintypes", Charlene in "Ain't Misbehavin'" and Sister Mary Leo in "Nunsense". She has a self-produced CD entitled "Takin' A Chance".

Demetria is looking forward to her role in "Chicago". She said, "I get to work with Jennie Eisenhower and Justin Guarini who just finished two Broadway runs this past year (referring to his roles in "American Idiot" and "Women on The Verge")."

She is also happy to be in the borough of Media. "It's a very nice section of Delaware County," she said. "The Media Theatre shares State Street with several great restaurants and shops. It will be great performing in one of the region's top professional theatres."

"Chicago" will have a live orchestra conducted by Resident Music Director Tom Fosnocht, who begins his second season at The Media Theatre with this production. The 2011-12 Broadway Series continues with "The Sound of Music" November 22-January 15. Tony nominated actress Ann Crumb will lead the musical "Wings" February 8-26 and the season will conclude with the exclusive Philadelphia regional premiere of "Spring Awakening" April 18-May 20.
