The cult-classic musical Rocky Horror Show will kick off Civic Theatre of Allentown's 2010-2011 season when it opens in Civic's 19th Street Theatre on Friday, October 8th. Rocky Horror will run through Saturday, October 23rd, with eleven total performances, two of which will be Friday-into-Saturday midnight shows. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting www.CivicTheatre.com, calling 610.432.8943 or going to Civic's Box Office at 527 N 19th Street in Allentown between 10 and 4 on a weekday.

Civic Artistic Director William Sanders will be directing a cast of 29 local actors, including Allentown's Joshua Neth, who will be starring as Dr. Frank N. Furter. Neth acted previously at Civic as the Beast in Civic's 2008 production of Beauty and the Beast, a role with quite a few differences from the one he's taken on in Rocky Horror. "There are few roles more fun for an actor than Frank N. Furter," says Neth. "That I will have the chance to put my own mark on such a legendary character makes up for the fact that I'll be in front of thousands of people wearing only a little more than fishnet stockings."

"We hope to give all the iconic images their due," says Sanders. "We'll be playing with audience feedback and adding touches of our own. Fun, crazy choreography, homages to many shows and movies - everything from Star Wars to Mommie Dearest - a wild set and an onstage rock and roll band under the direction of the mega-talented Justin Brehm. This will be just the beginning of a season that will rock you, move you, and leave you understanding the glory of the moments that only live theatre can bring you."

The Rocky Horror Show had its first production in 1973 in a small theatre in London and then, after two previews, premiered in the U.S. at The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles on March 21, 1974. From there it made its way to Broadway and, in the same year (1975 - 35 years ago!), was made into a smash hit movie. The movie starred such prominent cast members as Tim Curry (Dr. Frank-N-Furter), Susan Sarandon (Janet) and Barry Bostwick (Brad).

Written by Richard O'Brien, Rocky Horror introduces two clean-cut young adults, Brad Majors and Janet Weiss, who run into car trouble and seek help at the site of a light down the road. Little do they know the light is coming from the place where Dr. Frank N. Furter is in the midst of one of his maniacal experiments. The play is a rock musical, a spoof of science fiction movies, and a strange story of seduction and sexual confusion. This production contains mature themes and sexual content - parents should think of it as an R-rated movie.

Tickets are currently on sale for Rocky Horror Show and can be purchased by visiting www.CivicTheatre.com, calling 610.432.8943 or by visiting Civic's Box Office at 527 N 19th Street in Allentown.
