Civic Theatre of Allentown will present a three-night only run of John Ford Noonan's Music from Down the Hill on January 28th, 29th and 30th in Civic's Theatre514. Admission is $10 per person, taken as a cash donation to Civic Theatre at the door before each performance. Seating is general admission and advance ticket sales are not available.

Music from Down the Hill, directed by Civic Technical Director Will Morris, is set in a psychiatric clinic atop a hill in the beautiful country town of Woodstock, New York. Claire Granick, a young schizophrenic who loves Bruce Springsteen to death and cannot for the life of her tell the truth, regularly drives out new roommates with terror tactics and Springsteen songs played too loud.

Enter Margot Yossarian, a middle aged hysteric with a huge heart and a frightened body who also loves rock n roll, especially the music of the 60s Hendrix, Joplin, The Doors, Cream. Claire's usually effective tactics don't undermine Margot, but rather release her stiffened body and send her to a soaring state of health dreamed of but never expected by the head of the hospital.

Morris, who played the lead in Civic's recent mainstage production of Abe Lincoln in Illinois, says he chose to direct Music from Down the Hill because it is "a fascinating exploration of how far the human psyche can be pushed until it fiercely recoils. It delves into what is truly real, what we perceive as real, and what we purposefully invent to aid us in coping with our situations."

Music from Down the Hill features Katelyn Roof of Center Valley as Claire and Deena Linn of Allentown as Margot.

This production is part of 514Works, brought back by Civic Artistic Director William Sanders, a series of events to be produced in Civic's black box Theatre514 throughout the coming months as part of the True Friends of Civic fund-raising project. Also part of 514Works will be additionAl Small-scale productions, solo and group cabaret nights and performances by the Associated Mess Improv Comedy Troupe.
