CURIOUS GEORGE AND THE GOLDEN MEATBALL Debuts at Upper Darby Summer Stage

Audiences will be delighted by the antics of the inquisitive monkey George and his owner, the Man in the Yellow Hat, as they hit the stage with new friends, catchy music, and a whacky adventure. This musical is a first for Upper Darby Summer Stage and is guaranteed to be a hit among families with young children. Performances are August 2, 3, and 4 at 10:30 am and on August 3 at 7:30 pm at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center.

It's All-You-Can-Eat Meatball Day and George couldn't be more excited! With the help of the Man in the Yellow Hat (Josh Angell of Havertown), George (Anthony Flamminio of Drexel Hill) helps his friend Chef Pisghetti (Mark LaVecchio of Drexel Hill) cook delicious meatballs. But when Phinnea T. Lightspeed (Caroline Borio of Plymouth Meeting) uses the Meatballs O'Matic to steal the hungry crowd away, a defeated Chef Pisghetti vows to quit cooking. To help him feel better, George enters the chef in the Golden Meatball Competition... in Rome. With a monkey like George and a cast of goofy characters, there's no telling what fun will ensue as George learns about Rome, meatballs, and the secret ingredient to good cooking - and friendship.

The performance is approximately 60 minutes with no intermission. Parking is free. The show is recommended for ages four and up with free babysitting in the lobby offered for those who may be too young to sit quietly through the entire show.

Director Brian Walsh explains the show "really is about the importance of friendship." "It's about how even when we don't feel we can accomplish something, our friends can lift us up," said Brian. "This show is certain to provide a positive message for young kids that will resonate with their families."

A Summer Stage show is a unique experience for all ages. Prior to the children's performances young audience members can enjoy pre-show activities and a meet-and-greet with characters after each show. Autographs and pictures are encouraged!

Upper Darby Summer Stage celebrates 42 seasons empowering young people and entertaining families. Each season the program presents six dynamic Children's Theater productions and one professional caliber Mainstage production.

Summer Stage offers programs for students beginning at age 11 in the Apprentice Program and has participants up to age 28 in the Mainstage productions. Programs available include the Apprentice Program (11-12 yrs.), Rising Stars (12-13 yrs.), Children's Theater (14-17 yrs.), and Mainstage (18-28 yrs.). Summer Stage also offers an outstanding technical theater program for students ages 14 to 18.
