Bristol Riverside Theatre (BRT) kicks off the 2nd season of its America Rising reading series with I Am A Superhero by Jennifer Tuckett. This reading will take place Sunday, October 11 at 5 p.m. at St. James Parish Hall, 225 Walnut Street in Bristol.

Produced and directed by Founding Director, Susan D. Atkinson, I Am A Superhero is the touching account of how a 12 year old English child, Yasmin, became a full-fledged superhero. In the wake of her father's death, young Yasmin embarks on a secret mission to conquer the forces of darkness and bring her family back together. In the process, she constructs an identity for herself and comes of age in this funny, touching and inspiring story of youth, persistence and wonder.

BRT alum Barbara McCulloh, a Bristol resident who has appeared in numerous BRT productions, will take the stage as Yasmin's mother. Two Snyder-Girotti Elementary/Middle School students, Kelly Brophy as Yasmin and Robert Perry as Danny, complete the cast. Both students have also participated in BRT's Artrageous summer camp.

The America Rising series opens the door to the hottest new voices of the American theatre - this year focusing on Voices of Today's Women - while the staged reading of I Am A Superhero gives Bristol area students the opportunity to expand their theatrical horizons as primary contributors to the program.

Series subscriptions are $45, $40 for BRT members. Individual reading tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets include the reading, a post-show discussion, and food. For tickets, call the BRT Box Office at (215) 785-0100.
