The community dinner and fire relief benefit is organized with help from George Reilly, owner of neighboring Twisted Tail.

Reilly said, "I live opposite Bridget Foys restaurant and watching what happened that night was an awful and sobering experience, looking at it with industry eyes. It makes you realize that one small thing, one mistake, can turn life upside down and affect so many people in the process. Philadelphia has a close-knit restaurant community. We see each other, spend time at each other's establishments and that creates a respect and a bond that connects the city together. I am really happy to see the response of not only the neighborhood restaurants, but that of the larger community throughout the city, reaching out to express their want to help and participate in this benefit event."

Reilly added, "It will be a night of sorrow, but also of celebration and camaraderie shown by everyone who buys a ticket to come out and partake in the food and drink and music, as well as bidding on some great auction items. We will be honoring the first responders to the fire as well as raising money to benefit all affected by the fire. It is an honor and a pleasure to help arrange this event and I look forward to it being a fantastic community event."

SSHD Executive Director Michael Harris said in a statement issued the day of the fire:

"Our hearts go out to John, Bernadette, Bridget, Paul and the entire Foy family. Bridget Foy's has been the cornerstone of South Street for 40 years and a vital part of our colorful and vibrant South Street story - and an important part of Philadelphia's history. Families from around the city, region and country have come through Foy's doors to find a wonderfully warm welcome and exceptional hospitality from this beloved family (and their staff). Foy's is a special tradition for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter and so many other special occasions. Please keep the family and staff in your thoughts - as well A. Howard Nelson and staff of Doggie Style, the two dogs who died in the fire and those displaced in neighboring apartments. Our sincere thanks for all the first responders and the city's defenders for their efforts to contain the fire and keep our neighborhood safe."
