Amaryllis Theatre Co Ends Season With I AM MY OWN WIFE 6/1-13

By:

Amaryllis Theatre Company concludes its 2009-2010 season with the Pulitzer Prize-winning play I AM MY OWN WIFE by Doug Wright on June 1-13 at Amaryllis Theatre Company's home in The Playground at the Adrienne (2030 Sansom Street). Directed by Josette Todaro, I AM MY OWN WIFE stars Philadelphia actor Charlie DelMarcelle in a tour-de-force performance playing 35 characters.
Performances are at 7:00 on Tuesdays and Opening Night, June 2; at 8:00 on Wednesdays through Fridays except Opening; and at 2:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets at $10 each, $5 for groups of 10 or more, are available through the Amaryllis website: www.amaryllistheatre.org, by calling 877-260-1126, or at the door.

Charlotte von Mahsldorf, born Lothar Berfelde in 1928, survives both Nazi Germany and Communist-occupied East Berlin. During these years, wearing a dress and living publicly as a transvestite, she braves bombs, Nazi soldiers and the Stasi regime, to lovingly rescue furniture, clocks, and other remnants of lives abandoned. I AM MY OWN WIFE chronicles the real-life intrigue of this high-profile transvestite while alternately challenging and praising her role as a modern-day "hero" who selflessly risks herself for a greater good.

Charlie DelMarcelle has performed locally for Inis Nua Theatre Company, EgoPo Classic Theatre, White Box Theatre, Azuka Theatre Company, and the Vagabond Acting Troupe. He directs the touring and mainstage productions for the Fulton Family Theatre Ensemble, serves as a roster artist for the PA Council on the Arts, and is an instructor for the Fulton Theatre Academy and an adjunct faculty member at both West Chester University and Albright College.

I AM MY OWN WIFE brings together the creative team of Meghan Jones as set designer, Jerold Forsyth as lighting designer, Maggie Baker as costume designer, and John Stovicek as sound designer.

Amaryllis Theatre Company is the theatrical producing arm of VSA Pennsylvania (the state organization on arts and disability), an affiliate through VSA of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. For the last ten years, Amaryllis has been producing award-winning, professional theatre that is fully inclusive and accessible, sharing its accessibility equipment with its colleagues statewide at no charge and training them in its use.
