Acting Without Boundaries Hosts Committee Dinner For The Third Annual Hero Award On Thursday February 1st , Mr. and Mrs. Michael and Karina Rouse of Newtown Square hosted the AWB Hero Award Committee Dinner. This event was the kickoff to the third annual AWB Hero Award that will be held on Thursday, April 12th at the historic Water Works in Fairmount, Philadelphia.

Without Boundaries (AWB) is a unique theatre workshop for people with physical disabilities. Since 2004, AWB has been providing extraordinary, one-of-a-kind training in the performing arts. Our program strives to transform lives and build self-esteem in an empowering community of people with physical disabilities through theater that celebrates ability.

The Hero Award was established in 2016 and is given to a community leader with a physical disability who displays remarkable efforts to overcome adversity, enhance awareness, reduce stigma, and increase community access for individuals with disabilities. This year we are thrilled to announce J.R. Martinez, actor, best-selling author, motivational speaker, ABC's Dancing With the Stars Season 13 champion, and wounded U.S. Army veteran as the AWB 2018 Hero Award honoree.

Forty people attended the amazing committee dinner, full of excitement for the upcoming Hero Award. Representatives from the organization spoke about AWB's mission and accomplishments, each of them shedding a positive light on what AWB means to the actors and their families. Attendees also watched J.R.'s performance on Dancing With the Stars and marveled at his skill and stage presence, completely forgetting about his disability and focusing on his incredible ability.
