Act II Playhouse in Ambler to Present Holiday Comedy 'MY VERY OWN POLAR BEAR'

Act II Playhouse in Ambler presents the world premiere of My Very Own Polar Bear, a new children's show for the holidays by local playwright Bill D'Agostino, on stage Dec. 16-31.

My Very Own Polar Bear is a comedy about the friendship between a girl and her (real-to-her) polar bear. It's a hilarious and heartwarming story about a life-changing Christmas present.

Directed by Amanda Coffin, My Very Own Polar Bear stars Katie Stahl (Brighton Beach Memoirs) as Emma, an imaginative girl who likes to make inventions, such as a freeze ray and time machine. For Christmas, she receives a stuffed polar bear, played by Patrick Romano (Red Herring, Tomfoolery), who becomes Emma's trusted friend and fellow inventor. Heather Plank plays Emma's loving but overwhelmed single mom.

"The play is inspired by some of my favorite stories of kids and their beloved stuffed animals: Calvin and Hobbes, Knuffle Bunny, and Corduroy," D'Agostino said. "It's also inspired by my own daughter's wild imagination and love of stuffies."

This is D'Agostino's tenth play for kids. He is the author of such previous Act II shows as the five Murray the Elf mysteries and Sleeping Handsome, as well as Fairy Tale High School, Robin Hood, and Teen Sherlock, which premiered at Montgomery Theater. He lives in Bryn Mawr with his wife and two daughters.

My Very Own Polar Bear is filled with slapstick comedy as well as heartfelt scenes of friendship and family.

"The holidays are a time to celebrate with those we love," said D'Agostino, Act II's Communications and Education Director. "This show is a chance for kids and their grownups to laugh together and share the wonder and joy of the season."

Tickets for My Very Own Polar Bear at Act II Playhouse are $10-$20. Tickets are available online at www.act2.org, by calling the Act II box office at (215) 654-0200, or in person at 56 E. Butler Ave. in Ambler. The play is recommended for ages 4 and up, and runs approximately an hour.
