Act II Playhouse announces that its next Cabaret Night will be Monday, Dec. 19, when Liz Filios and John Jarboe will perform their new Holiday Cabaret. The show begins at 7 p.m.

"The cabaret will be a hand-stitched tapestry of personal memories and tunes from the great American songbook, with stories that celebrate time and togetherness," Filios said. "We'll throw in some of our signature madcap hi-jinks: cardboard props, quick changes, and some good old-fashioned comic relief."

Filios and Jarboe are familiar to Act II audiences for their lead roles in the original hit musical Burt and Me in summer 2010. They also perform regularly at the Wilma Theater as part of The Bearded Ladies Cabaret. Heath Allen will be music director for the evening.

Tickets to this one-night-only event are $20, which includes a pre-show cocktail hour in the lobby, hosted and sponsored by Chameleon, a boutique located in downtown Ambler, beginning at 6 p.m.
The next Act II cabaret night will be Monday, March 5 when Mary Martello returns to Act II. Martello performed in last winter's special smash event, The Reluctant Optimist. The final cabaret night of the season will be Monday, May 7 (performer TBA).

A graduate of the University of Michigan, Liz Filios has had the opportunity to perform at the Arden Theatre, the Wilma Theatre, the Walnut Street Theatre, Act II Playhouse, the Joyce Soho, Cape Town Opera (South Africa), The International Opera Theatre (Italy), and as a host for the children's television network PBSKids Sprout. Favorite roles include Kathy in SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, Lucy in THE THREEPENNY OPERA, The Narrator in JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, and Cunegonde in CANDIDE.

A graduate of the University of Michigan, John Jarboe is now a Philadelphia-based theatre artist. He most recently played Horatio and Amiens in Philadelphia Shakespeare Theatre's HAMLET and AS YOU LIKE IT, respectively. Other recent credits include Marley in A CHRISTMAS CAROL (Walnut Street Theatre) and Bloody Sergeant/Seyton in MACBETH (The Wilma). He is a member of Applied Mechanics Theatre Company with which he most recently performed Jan in PORTMANTEAU (Philly Fringe, Frontera Fest). Some favorite work includes turns as Julia Child in INSIDE Julia Child  (Philly Fringe) and as the title role in THE GREEN FAIRY CABARET (Philly School of Circus and Kimmel Center) which he wrote and performed in as part of the inaugural Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts. He is the artistic director of The Bearded Ladies, an experimental cabaret group with which he created BACK IN THE ARMY CABARET (Society Hill Playhouse), NO REGRETS: A PIAF AFFAIR (The Wilma and PIFA) and most recently WIDE AWAKE: A CIVIL WAR CABARET (Wilma). Look for The Bearded Ladies this April when they will perform in BEARDS ARE FOR SHAVING: A 007 CABARET (Wilma).

Act II Playhouse, now in its 13th season of professional theatre in the Philadelphia suburb of Ambler, PA, is committed to creating world-class theatre in a venue whose intimacy draws audiences and actors into dynamic interaction. Act II produces new, classic, and contemporary plays and musicals under the direction of Bud Martin (Producing Artistic Director) and Harriet Power (Associate Artistic Director). In July 2010, Howard Shapiro of The Philadelphia Inquirer declared that "Act II Playhouse is arguably the most up-and-coming of the region's small professional theaters outside Center City."
