A Bridge Too Far will be shown at Hershey Theatre on Sunday, January 8 at 2 p.m. The 1977 film, which was directed by Richard Attenborough, boasts an all-star cast that includes James Caan, Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Olivier, Ryan O’Neal, Robert Redford, Maximillian Schell and many others.

A Bridge Too Far is the story of the attempt in the latter stages of World War II to capture three bridges in Holland that would have allowed Allied access over the Rhine River into Germany. Told from the American, British and Polish perspective, the campaign, which was named Operation Market-Garden, called for a complicated parachute and armored assault. However, some bad intelligence mixed with the presence of two German panzer divisions; the result was that the bridge in Amhem was a bridge too far to succeed.

Tickets are $7 for general admission and are available at the Hershey Theatre Box Office, located at 15 East Caracas Avenue in downtown Hershey. Also available are Hershey Theatre six-packs of tickets for $30; these tickets will be valid for the entire 2011-2012 season.

The Box Office opens at 1 p.m. the afternoon of the film. A concert on the theatre’s historic four-manual Aeolian-Skinner organ precedes the film at 1:30 p.m.
