1812 Productions Makes 2018-2019 Season Announcement

1812 Productions announces its 2018-2019 theatre season. The 2018-2019 season features an American premiere from playwright Tom Wells and three 1812 original works, including the audience favorite This Is The Week That Is, a world premiere comedy, The God Project, and a curated comedy revue, Broads.

Our season begins with Tom Wells' comedy Broken Biscuits. Broken Biscuits is a rock 'n' roll comedy about three teenage 'total losers,' Megan, Holly, and Ben. In their last summer together, they hatch the ultimate plan to change their fortunes and leave a hard rocking mark on their hometown. A hysterical coming-of-age story for our times, Broken Biscuits premiered at Live Theatre, Newcastle upon Tyne in 2016 before touring the UK. The show will make its American premiere at 1812 Productions. Broken Biscuits will play October 4 thru October 28, 2018. Opening Night will be Wednesday, October 10 at 7pm.

The season continues with 1812 Productions' annual political comedy This Is The Week That Is. A celebrated part of the Philadelphia theatre season for the past 13 years, This Is The Week That Is brings to the stage signature 1812 satire and content that changes with the headlines. This season's production welcomes returning cast members Dave Jadico, Jennifer Childs, Sean Close, and Justin Jain, with additional casting to be announced. This Is The Week That Is will play from November 23, 2018 thru January 6, 2019. Opening Night will be Wednesday, November 28 at 7pm. This Is The Week That Is is part of The June and Steve Wolfson Family Foundation Series and welcomes Honorary Producer Terry Graboyes.

1812 Productions will close its season with another 1812 original, The God Project, written by Sean Close and Jennifer Childs and featuring Close, Childs, and Philadelphia theatre powerhouse Joilet Harris. In an overstocked Swedish furniture store (no, not that one!), two co-workers and their omnipresent manager unpack the cosmic mystery behind 'Some Assembly Required'-with only their Sunday School memories and a totem allen wrench to guide them. The God Project began as a conversation between Close and Childs, who are both children of Pastors, backstage at Plays & Players Theatre. That conversation quickly grew into a series of creative workshops in 2017, adding Ms. Harris and director David Bradley to the project. The development process will continue through the show's 2019 premiere. The God Project will play from April 25 thru May 19, 2018. Opening Night will be Wednesday, May 1 at 7pm.

2018-2019 Special Limited Engagements

As This Is The Week That Is plays through the month of December, we will also present a two-night-only holiday engagement, to be announced shortly. Our holiday special event will play Monday, December 10 and Tuesday, December 11, 2018.

In spring of 2018, 1812 Productions presents a red curtain comedy revue, Broads, curated by Jennifer Childs. From Mae West to Moms Mabley, Pearl Williams, and more, Broads celebrates the bawdiest, brashest, and funniest ladies of the 40s, 50s, and 60s. Broads will play for 10 performances from February 13 thru February 24, 2019.

Finally, 1812 Productions will present An 1812 Comedy Conversation. After 13 years of making This Is The Week That Is, a show which evolved from a historical comedy to a nightly-changing satire, we join the show's creators to take a look behind the curtain and unpack the funny business (pun intended) of making comedy in an often unfunny world. An 1812 Comedy Conversation will take place Monday, May 13 and Tuesday, May 14, 2019.

All performances during our 2018-2019 season will take place at Plays & Players Theatre, 1714 Delancey Place in Center City. Tickets and information can be found at www.1812productions.org.

1812 Productions was founded in 1997 and is the only professional theatre company in the country dedicated to comedy. Their education program, 1812 Outreach, has been awarded the Barrymore Award for Excellence in Theatre Education and Community Service and The Victory Foundation Award. 1812 Productions is the recipient of an honorary citation from the City of Philadelphia for outstanding work and commitment to the Philadelphia arts community. In 2010 and 2016, 1812 was among a select group of regional theatre companies to receive a National Theatre Company grant from the American Theatre Wing, founder of the Tony Awards. With a focus on devised and original works, 1812 Productions' mission is to produce theatrical works of comedy and comedic works of theatre that explore and celebrate our sense of community, our history, and our humanity.
