The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) is pleased to announce the spectacular production of the Tony Award-nominated musical Once on this Island at the Geoff Gibbs Theatre from 16 - 23 March 2013.

A Caribbean flavoured, non-stop song and dance spectacular, Once on this Island tells the thrilling story of a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with a wealthy boy from the other side of her island... when he is returned to his people, the fantastical Gods who rule the island send the peasant girl on an epic quest which will test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.

"Once On This Island is a magical production that draws its inspiration from The Little Mermaid story. It's a moving and beautiful tale of star-crossed lovers with an unforgettable score that will touch audiences of all ages and asks the ultimate question... what price are we willing to pay for love?" said Director Jason Langley.

WAAPA's 2013 music program will be kicked off in spectacular style with the WAAPA Jazz Super Group in their debut performance, performing Jazz Dimensions at the Music Auditorium on the 14 March 2013.

This dynamic group of post-graduate and 3rd year performance students will present an exciting and eclectic range of music, from original works to much loved modern jazz classics.

"Jazz Dimensions brings together the jazz Honours students from WAAPA, the cream of the crop, to perform their original compositions and arrangements at this special concert. Expect a dynamic and creative concert featuring Australia's next jazz stars", said the shows Music Director, Jamie Oehler.

All cast and creatives are available for interview and tickets to both shows are on sale from 5 March 2013 at www.waapa.ecu.edu.au/performances-and-events/bookings.
